Choosing to go on a cleanse is admirable. We all know it’s good for us, but it’s not always fun. Detoxing can be intense and who knows what could come up—physically and/or emotionally. As you know: always consult with your healthcare provider before doing a cleanse.

Comfort in Structure

I love detoxing for the energy and focus it provides. It feels easier not worrying about what I’m going to eat because it is all preset and planned. It’s a mind game you can easily win. I love overcoming my cravings with discipline. I’ve gone out to dinner and even grocery shopping with friends while I fast. I simply remind myself that chocolate will exist in a few days after my cleanse.

To help with the mental detox aspect, I recommend meditation. Which cleanse shall I do?

After deciding to take the plunge for your health and wellbeing with a cleanse, you must choose what detox to do. There are hundreds of options. I’ve done just about everything from the master cleanse to only water for 21 days to a 40-day veggie juice fast to 21 days of raw foods and many others.

One of my favorites are the 5-Day Detox from Dr. Shulze’s American Botanical Pharmacy because they offer clear and useful information along with high quality ingredients (you can read and download all his guidebooks here for free). Although their info is very straight forward, it can be overwhelming the first time. With practice everything gets easier so I documented my last liver detox so you can get a visual of this undertaking and to give you some ideas on how to make it easier.

What if I get hungry?

Let’s address a common objection: I can’t handle being hungry! The best way not to go hungry is to do a flush… meaning your detox has constant drinks built into it so you drink something every hour or two as part of the cleanse. If you get hungry in between your scheduled drinks, drink 8 to 16 ounces of water or veggie juice.

It has to work for You!

The point of a cleanse is to give your body a break from toxins and digestion so it can clean your body and repair your cells. Everything is relative so doing a little of this is better than not at all. Depending on your health goals and your work demands, do what you can.

My Honey Bunny did the Beginner’s Detox, meaning he did not change his diet and simply added 3 detox tea and tinctures per day so he added 16 oz in the morning, 16 oz at lunch time and 16 oz at night.

I was able to do the Advance Detox so I ate raw salads on day 1 and 5 while consuming 5 detox tea and tinctures plus the morning flush drink and dinner potassium broth everyday. On days 2, 3 and 4, I drank green juice for lunch. Each day, I mapped out my schedule on a post it and set alarms on my phone to stay on track. Luck Favors the Prepared

The first thing to do is to read the how-to-book. This will remind you why it is so good to detox, get your mind psyched and start your prepping, at least a week in advance of your first day on your cleanse.

Glass jars make this process much easier. I use little vials for the tinctures so I can take them like a shot with a little juice and chase it with the detox tea in 16 oz mason jars. I like 8 oz jars for the flush drink, water chaser and veggie juice. Get enough jars and vials to prep a bit the night before to alleviate your morning. Definitely shop ahead of time so you have everything set to start on day 1.
